The Known World Choir

The Known World Choir (KWC) is an organization of people from throughout the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) who love to sing medieval and renaissance choral music.

Where does the KWC meet?

Known World Choirs have performed at SCA events around the Known World, including the Estrella War in the Kingdom of Atenveldt, Gulf War in the Kingdom of Gleann Abhann, Lilies War in the Kingdom of Calontir and the Pennsic War in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc. People from all over the Known World gather to rehearse for a week and then present a concert to the delight of audiences at events all around the SCA.

KWC History

The Known World Choir was started in Anno Societatis XXII (1987) at Pennsic XVI by Mistress Josselyne ferch Rhys of the West Kingdom, who went on to direct the Pennsic Choir for several years. It has continued at Pennsic every year since then under various directors (most notably Lady Erlan Nordenskaldr of the East Kingdom for over a decade), and expanded to the Estrella War, Gulf War, and Lilies War whenever people willing to organize and direct choirs there have been available.

The Pennsic Choirs

In A.S. XLVII, the Pennsic Choirs grew to include a Children's Choir and a small audition-based group called Chorulus Pennsicus. The Pennsic Children's Choir was so successful that the following year it was divided into Children's and Youth Choirs, so by Pennsic XLII there were four Pennsic Choirs performing at our traditional Thursday night concert.

Estrella Choir

Founded by Master Lazarus Artifex in the early 2000s, the Estrella Choir has performed concerts as well as at courts. Its current director is Lord Thome Spyle Syngere of the Barony of Atenveldt.
