Choral Music Scores

  • The CPDL (Choral Public Domain Library) is a Wiki of copyright-free choral sheet music, audio files, and sometimes source files in formats like Finale, Sibelius, Encore, and Noteworthy Composer. Entries are contributed by people from all over the world. They are not subject to editorial review, so use with caution.
  • The IMSLP (International Music Score Library Project) of the Petrucci Music Library is another Wiki offering copyright-free scores and audio files. It includes instrumental as well as vocal works, and can be sorted by time period.
  • CIPOO.NET is another Wiki of choral music. Its entries are somewhat less extensive than the CPDL and the site has a substantial amount of advertising on it. Files are offered in PDF, MIDI, and Noteworthy Composer (NWC) formats.
  • SCORSER.NET has instrumental and choral music, searchable by composer and instrument. Most of its content is out of SCA period, but it does have entries for many period choral composers like Byrd, Dowland, Monteverdi, Praetorius, Morley, and Gesualdo.
  • The Digital Image Archive of Medieval Music (DIAMM) offers a searchable list of medieval manuscripts from libraries over the world. You can filter the search results by country, author, genre, etc. After selecting a manuscripts, click the Image tab if there is one (not all mss. offer online images). These images are from actual period manuscripts, not transcriptions, so they may prove difficult for those not experienced in reading medieval music notation. Here's an example from the Wode Psalter:
  • The Early Music Online Project of the Royal Holloway University of London, like the DIAMM site, offers online images of medieval and renaissance music manuscripts, both instrumental and vocal.
